Innovation Redefines Microwave Digestion: A Breakthrough Solving the Iridium Powder Digestion Challenge

February.22 Environmental Food

Introducing the Super Microwave Digestion System

The Super Microwave Digestion System represents an innovation in sample preparation, utilizing a pre-pressurized single-reaction chamber. Unlike traditional systems, it integrates the sample digestion tube and microwave chamber into a unified structuret. Key features include:

- Automated sealing for airtight operation
- High-temperature and high-pressure capabilities (up to 280°C and 4 MPa)

- Rapid cooling technology for faster processing

- Direct microwave coupling to the reaction chamber

These advancements significantly enhance digestion efficiency, operational simplicity, and cost-effectiveness, marking a significant shift in the field of sample digestion.

The Iridium Powder Puzzle: Why It Is Tough to Digest

Iridium powder is a rare metallic materialwith exceptional chemical and phsical properties:

- Appearance: Black powder
- Chemical Stability: Resistant to acids, alkalis, and salts

- Melting point: 3,054°C (5,509°F)

These unique characteristics make iridium powder invaluable in industries like aerospace, electronics, and medicine. However, its extreme inertness renders traditional digestion methods ineffifient for digestion and then impurity analysis.

How to Solve the Problem Using CKIC Super Microwave Digestion System

Procedure:

1. Prepare the sample: Weigh 0.1000g of dried iridium powder into a digestion tube.

2. Add reagents: Add 0.5 mL of H₂O₂ and then 10mL of HCl.

3. Before Analysis:

- Place the tubes into a rack.
- Insert the lined bucket, containing a carrier liquid, into the stainless steel chamber to guarantee uniform heating of all digestion tubes.

- Load the rack into the chamber and secure the lid.

4. Digestion parameters:
- Pre-pressurization: to 4 MPa
- Ramp Time: 20m
- Target Temperature: 280°C
- Hold Time: 90m

Digestion Results: Faster, Cleaner, and More Cost-Effective

- Complete Digestion: The final solution is clear, with no undissolved particles.
- Dramatic time savings: The entire process takes just 2 hours, down from 48 hours—a 90% or more reduction in analysis time.

- Lower costs: Minimal consumables and no expensive catalysts are required.

- Ease of use: Simplified tube loading procedures and elimination of complex pretreatment workflows.
